Beautiful Half Moon Bay

California. What comes to mind when I think of California. Well, a few things. Beverly Hills, San Diego, sunshine, beaches, Disneyland, surfing, Santa Monica blvd, taco trucks, La Jolla, and San Francisco.

Here is the crazy thing about traveling to new places though. Sometimes (often actually) you visit a place you have never been and it is unlike anything you expected. That is precisely what happened to us when we visited Half Moon Bay. Upon arrival, we felt more like we were in Scotland than California, and it was fantastic. Crisp ocean air, cliffs hiding amidst the fog, and a green covering that I had never quite seen in the Cali. You could say that Half Moon Bay had us at hello.

We stayed at the Ritz Carlton Half Moon Bay where the hotel and hospitality were equally wonderful. Brod was especially excited because they have two golf courses (the old course and ocean course) right there onsite and so as you can imagine he was all sorts of giddy walking around the grounds. It honestly astonishes me how much he loves golf haha! The boys loved it, we did s’mores at the fire pits at sunset, wandered the beaches, swam, played some croquet, ran around the grounds, and simply enjoyed being together. We also drove up the coast into San Francisco for a day and then drove down the coast exploring various beaches and lookout points.

Overall, Half Moon Bay was amazing. A place we found to be relaxing and low-key, as well as beautiful. The food and service at the hotel were both top notch. We also spent quite a bit downtown Half Moon Bay, a quaint and cute little town with various shops and restaurants. We ate at a little sushi joint our last night there and the food was terrific. I can’t remember the name of it but it’s right on one of the corners there and was so so good!
